In early January 1973 the Nixon White House convinced the Thieu-Ky regime in Saigon that they would not abandon the GVN if they signed onto the peace accord. On January 23, therefore, the final draft was initiated, ending open hostilities between the
Unites States and the DRV (Excerpts from the Paris Accords, 1973). The Paris Peace Agreement did not end the conflict in Viet Nam, however, as the Thieu-Ky regime continued to battle Communist forces. From March 1973 until the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975, APVN forces tried desperately to save the South from political and military collapse. The end finally came, however, as DRV tanks rolled south along National Highway One. On the morning of April 30, Communist forces captured the presidential palace in Saigon, ending the Second Indochina war and more that one hundred years of bloodshed.

Average age of 58.148 killed in Vietnam was 23.11 years. (Although 58,169 names arc in the Nov. 93 database, only 58,148 have both event date and birth, date. Even date is used instead of declared dead date for some of those who were listed as missing in action). Five men killed in Vietnam were only 16 years old. The oldest man killed was 62 years old. 11.465 KIAs were less than 20 years old. The average man who fought in World War II was 26 years of age.
Facts about the end of the war:
The fall of Saigon happened April 30, 1975, two years after the American military left Vietnam. The last American troops departed in their entirety March 29, 1973. The peace settlement was signed in Paris on 27 January 1973. It called for release of all U.S. prisoners, withdrawal of U.S. forces, and limitation of both sides' forces inside South Vietnam.
